Campaigns
After over 20yrs of campaigning for Damien, Mrs Nettles felt compelled to do something that was going to be helpful to the missing issue in general.
Damien’s Law
Our petition was not moving forward after months of pushing for change. Covid struck and lockdown ensued it became clear that our campaign needed to halt as Covid related issues dominated everything else.
During this time however, we formed a working group comprising police, families, universities research, and other orgs involved in the issue of missing. Damien’s Law first call for action for a centre has since gained some momentum and our commitment change has paid off.
We need your help
A gentleman on the Isle of Wight has kindly started a petition to ask Cowes Town Council for permission to erect a publicly displayed memorial as a tribute to Damien. It is fully supported by Valerie Nettles and her family. Please sign to offer your support, it will be greatly appreciated.
Missing Persons Information Hub
Missing Persons Information Hub is a one stop hub of available information for families of the missing to better understand the situation they find themselves in. Similarly, it serves those who are missing, signposting them to where they can seek advice and assistance. This network will offer a compilation of information from those with lived experience of being missing or having a missing loved one to professionals who provide assistance or research in the field of missing. From families who are living this ambiguous loss to the many organizations actively involved in the issues surrounding the subject of missing. This is a one stop hub bringing everyone together and directing them to relevant information.
At MPIH families can find information regarding policies, laws and research and links to the available support & guidance.
Professionals can collaborate on development of policies and vital research without duplication of services.
Missing issues are very often on the bottom of the agenda for most people. However the issue is one that affects not just families but the community at large. It is a (worldwide) social dilemma.
There is a tendency to lump all missing cases into one basket. This very often clouds the judgement of police who make assumptions. Improper risk assessment often leads to serious crime cases being overlooked until it is too late.
Missing is complex and with all eyes on the issue we hope that there will be increased vigilance and collaboration on this topic and less long-term missing as a result of a collective community consciousness and appreciation for the very varied issues that affect us all when someone goes missing.
“Never underestimate the valuable and important difference you make in every life you touch for the impact you make today has a powerful rippling effect on every tomorrow.”
Missing Persons Support
We run a Saturday Share project to raise awareness of long-term missing people who may not necessarily have a suitable platform for their missing loved one. Liaising closely with the family, we ensure the appeal is accurate before being finalised. The appeal is published across our social media platforms and is pinned to the featured section for a week.
If you have a missing family member and would like us to feature them, please visit Missing Persons Support and message an Admin to arrange a slot. We are happy to fit you in to coincide with birthdays or anniversaries as near to the date of your choice.
